the division will now be renamed to Microsoft Mobile Oy, with ‘Oy’ meaning
corporation in Finnish. There have been concerns over the possibility that
future smartphones and mobile devices will be branded as Microsoft Mobile, as
opposed to Nokia.
According to former Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop, this won’t exactly be the case.
“Microsoft Mobile Oy is a legal construct that was created to facilitate the merger,
and is not a brand that will be seen by consumers.”
For the time being at least, Microsoft will go ahead with the Nokia brand for its
mobile and smartphone products in the near future, although it is said that the
product and marketing teams in Microsoft are currently at work to come up with a
branding for their Lumia line of smartphones
