have previously changed via the Registry Editor. It is,
therefore, practical to integrate such changes into a log
for easier access. This can be done using the folder options
that you can open in Windows Explorer with the command
“Organise | Folder and Search options”. To do this, switch to
the “View” tab and click on “Options”, which is the last icon
and then click on “Change folder and search options”. There
are various “Advanced settings” in the “View” tab here which
are already configured via the Registry and each one can be
extended individually.
Theory and Practice
After the procedure is explained as a dry run in the first six
steps, the two examples in figures 7 and 8 further clarify the
principle with the help of the code in the Reg files for Windows
8. For example, the value “ConfirmFileDelete” is responsible
for the activation of the deletion confirmation that is missing in
the Explorer of Windows 8. This value must be created again
under “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer” as a DWORD value and must
be set to “1”. Generate a new key “Deletion Confirmation” and
insert all necessary variables there according to the table.
Allocate the string “Type” to the value “checkbox” and
enter the desired display text such as “Confirm file deletion” as
the “Text”. Allocate the subkey of the Registry to the variables
“RegPath” and in for this procedure, always use double
backslashes i.e. “SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\
CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Explorer”. Now allocate the name
“ConfirmFileDelete” to the variable “ValueName”. The value is
in the main key “HKEY_CURRENT_USER”. The coding for it is
the hexadecimal value “80000001” which can be allocated to
the variables “HkeyRoot”. Subsequently create the three
controlling variables “CheckedValue”, “UncheckedValue” and
“DefaultValue” always as DWORD value and allocate the
values “1”, “0” and “0”. The second example in Figure 8
shows how you can facilitate the closing of Apps under
Windows 8.1 with several options.
Close the Registry and in the Explorer check whether the new
elements are correct. Now change them via the dialog and
again check in the Registry whether the change has actually
taken place at the right place.
