automatically rectify the lens distortions
present in the device. As for Canon
SLRs, there is an additional option
to reduce vignetting internally. These
options are activated in the basic settings
but they work only with lenses that are
stored in the camera’s internal database.
If everything fits then the automatic lens
correction can save you having to do
double work.
In the setup menu of most of cameras
you can determine whether images
should be automatically rotated. If this
option is activated then the camera
adjusts the vertical alignment of your
portrait mode images and thus saves
you the trouble of rotating the picture on
the computer.
For the best possible picture quality,
you should always shoot in RAW and
with the highest resolution. However,
sometimes you do not need the full
resolution – say for pictures that you
want to upload to the Internet, it's
worthwhile to shoot on a smaller
resolution. This then allows you to not
only save space on your memory card
but uploading the files via a computer is
also much faster.
It is faster to operate your camera
manually if you allocate function keys
individually. As not all keys allocations
are pre-set by the manufacturer, you can
link different keys to the frequently used
functions of your camera. For example,
the Canon 1100D, allows you to access
the picture quality via the “SET”-key
and to the ISO values depending on the
configuration or you can change the
flash settings. Similar functions can be
allocated to the [Fn] key in many Nikon
models.
