In one of what we feel is Dan Brown’s better works, Digital
Fortress delves into how far the National Security Agency is
willing to go in order to get their hands on a super secure
encryption technology called the Digital Fortress.
The creator of the
code, one Ensei
Tankado was
murdered early on
in the novel by his
partner, known only
as “North Dakota”,
and the NSA’s
Deputy Director of
Operations would
do anything to get
his hands on the
code and the
decryption keys in
order to be able to
spy on every
computer in the
world.
The interesting
bit about Digital
Fortress is the fact
that there is no set protagonist as everyone wants the Digital
Fortress code for their own gain and purposes, with a lot of
backstabbing involved.
There is a plot twist however, as the code, when unlocked,
becomes a worm that disintegrates any security that is placed
on the servers which it is hosted on, which allows anyone with
an internet connection to access secure and sensitive
information without so much as a button click.
